My secondary leakage saga..
My pump was cycling on and off every couple of seconds so i decided to remove the plenum to identify where i was leaking so much.
My leak down was coming from the solenoid. I put a gauge to every line and have no leaks. When vacuum is applied to the inlet of the solenoid, pressure is built, and then slowly leaks down. I decided to replace the solenoid. I have ordered several GM 214-358, and EVS33, and they all leak. Some won't hold a vacuum at all. Some leak until the actuator is activated and the secondary's open up, and some leak all of the time. I've read that as long as the pump isn't running more than one time every two seconds, i won't throw a code. I'm really looking to get it to run a lot less though. Outside of the brackets on these things, they appear to all be the same part. I have 2 more 214-358's coming and i'm hoping one of them will be pretty good. i've taken one of these apart- its really just a plunger in a cylinder. anyone else have any issues with the solenoid leaking like this??? |

Re: My secondary leakage saga..
I gave up on the defective GM solenoids. Go with Standard VS124. Your problems are over.

Re: My secondary leakage saga..
I used the recommended VS124 with very good results. Cycles are way over 10s.
I modified the holding bracket to match the mounting point on the airbox. Alternatively you could simply swap the brackets. The valves themselves are almost identical. 20210720_224135.jpg Sent from my SM-G991B using ZR-1 Net Registry mobile app

Re: My secondary leakage saga..
Yes you can carefully swap the brackets but the little tabs don?t bend many times. I cut the brackets off then drill and fasten them together with machine screws.

Re: My secondary leakage saga..
I ordered 2 VS124's.. both held WAY better than the other GM solenoids. I used the better of the two- i have about 10 secs now between pump cycle. Thank you guys!
I seriously went through 7 different leaky solenoids. VS124 is the way to go. |

Re: My secondary leakage saga..
Forgive my ignorance, but where are you ordering the VS124 solenoids from? (I assume they are a GM part, and the "VS" stands for Vacuum Solenoid, yes?)
I'll put it in my parts file for future reference. But, since both my wife's and my Zs run on BOTH injectors, FULL TIME (aka "secondary deleted" mode) we won't ever have a vacuum issue due to leaky (whatever)! "Parts that don't exist seldom fail, and they don't cost much!"

Re: My secondary leakage saga..
I bought 2- one from Amaz0n, and the other from Wmart.
honestly- eliminating the mechanism(s) to enable the secondaries is very tempting. Cleans things up, i don't think you can even tell its been done unless you are under the plenum, and less things to break/troubleshoot. Trying to keep this thing as original as possible. we'll see how well that goes. |

Re: My secondary leakage saga..
They're listed on e.g. Rockauto STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS VS124 {#1997212}
Eliminating the secondaries might be tempting - BUT it's one of the damn coolest features in a ZR-1
