Default Hydraulic Hood Openers

Hydraulic Hood Openers

Early C4?s had two hydraulic assist supports attached to brackets on the hood and frame.
I don?t know why that design was discontinued.
I think the attachment points are still there on our 90-95 cars.
I saw a YouTube segment where a guy with a C4 popped the latch and lifted the hood with two fingers. This caught my attention.
Have any of you guys done a conversion to this system? I see the hydraulic supports on Amazon, but before I start ordering parts it would be good to know what all is needed, sources, best prices and quality, tips.
TIA
After owning this 91? for 27 years my right arm has developed nicely, but enough is enough. LOL

Jagdpanzer added hydraulic struts to his 94. There was a post on how to but I cannot find it somehow.

I put a new strut on my hood. I now open the hood with two fingers and at two thirds open it opens the rest of the way on its own. Two of those may be able to open the hood on its own when unlatched.

On my 91 I installed a new long strut and a pair of the shorty struts on the pins on the hinge brackets. For the shorties I needed some small washers and pins only. Do it. None hood is easily raised 2 feet it goes up on its own. That sucker will never come down on me again. My shorties were cheap on Amazon.

The hydraulic supports were discontinued because later model hoods are apparently lighter.
