Can I run on fuel pumps test lead?

If I would get the condition of starts but won’t continue to run indicating the primary fuel pump failed, can I hook up to the fuel pump test lead and continue to drive? I am speaking of the lead near the windshield wiper motor that we connect to battery positive with a 10 amp fuse for protection. Or does this lead only operate the pump relays with ignition off?

I think you would be better off to connect a fuel pressure gauge and put it on your windshield and watch pressure, just because a pump "runs" doesn't mean it is giving correct pressure.

Let me explain further. . If I am on the road and have a primary failure can I get home with the jump lead?

I will let someone else chime in, if the pumps are getting power, jumping them would make no difference???

The secondary pump only runs (1)for a few minutes @ cold start and (2)open loop conditions, key on, 3000+ rpm.

I understand that the OP's inquiry is if the primary pump fails on the road, can the secondary pump can be used in closed loop by installing a jumper.

A search of the forum should turn up a thread from the lat year or so that has all of this resolved by a jumper made by one of the members that would plug in at the gas tank connector to enable using the secondary pump in the event the primary fuel pump failed on the road.

No b/c a fuel pump relay switches on and disables the test lead connection.

What has been offered from time to time by Daryl (aka Gold Cylon) is an emergency jumper that activates the secondary pump until you can get the primary pump replaced. OR, you can jerry-rig a cross connection yourself.

The connector to the fuel pumps is under the gas fill door. You open the door, remove the gas cap, and pull the rubber dam (that surrounds the fill pipe) and the connector is "right in front of you".

From time to time, Daryl takes orders for the handy jumpers that you simply disconnect the connection under the fuel door and insert his emergency jumper to activate the secondary pump and you are on your way. OR, you can buy the Weatherpac connector parts (I like Del City.com) and make one yourself.

I am aware of the jumper that swaps the gray and green wire positions. Black is ground and purple the sender. I understand now from Paul that it has to do with the relay. I need Paul to move to Ocala FL to pester him with questions!
