Default First start of w new short vlock and intake cam.

Dr. Greekenstein gets motor with new short block, a new intake cam and lifters started w just a few cranks. You’ll hear him use an expletive to describe a vacuum leak at the plenum which he remedies just a few hours later.

Nice! Starting a fresh build is always nerve wracking especially with the noises it initially makes. Can’t wait to see the Dyno sheets after it’s tuned.

Hans,

As we know its pretty routine for someone like Pete. And the tune was good on it anyway. Just making sure the new lifters and cam meshed well. A bit noisy at startup, but once lifters pumped up, it smoothed and quieted down noticeably.
Oil pressure VG and coolant temps fine. No leaks. Now getting exhaust welded up by Al to eliminate slip on joint and exhaust leak ahead of Xpipe, which was the main issue after all is said and done.

Nice!

I would like to upgrade my cams and get an extra 20 to 25hp and more useable rpm out of the motor.

The money to power gains seems pretty pricey.

The motor has been upgraded incrementally. So I started w a ported top end + exhaust. That produced 397rwhp.
Then Pete and I put on ported heads, and intake cams. That reached 430rwhp.
Very nice motor for street. Good idle quality w good performance.
I didn’t necessarily want to go w exhaust cams at first. But Pete persuaded me to go ahead.
So finally, we added exhaust cams which brought power levels to 454rwhp.
Tuning helps tame idle. Power is intoxicating. Would not go back.

These numbers are all SAE. Uncorrected, the motor w exhaust cams produced
464rwhp/411rwtq.
