Anybody have experience getting your auto insurance company
to cover severe pitting of your windshield? My DD has a severlly pitted windshield (no cracks etc) REALLY bad glare in the early morning and late afternoon. With the insurance company we discussed wear and tear vs accident etc damage. After talking to 5 different insurance company people they finally gave in after I stressed a windshield claim is much better than the alternative of a serious accident due to poor visibility. Next issue, OEM BMW glass... could be worse, could be a ZR-1 coated windshield... Last edited by Mystic ZR-1; 10-07-2019 at 08:32 PM. |

The Hartford
Had them for years with homeowners too. The ZR-1 is separately insured thru the NCM. |

I also have Hartford ins on my bus. A few years ago a rock hit the windshield and it was replaced free. Must be a clause on my policy.

The policy(all really) covers sudden/direct and accidental damage. Wear and tear is an exclusion. While I understand your points, they also do not owe to replace items so you dont have an accident.... just like they wont pay for brakes, etc.
Windshield replacement is generally not closely monitored; and the exposure is minimal(although that is changing with modern cars and the need to calibrate collision avoidance sensors) so not surprised when they gave you the coverage.

At the end of the day if you arent submitting false claims and collecting settlements for glass that wasnt replaced.... Tow Bills/Glass are as close to giveaways as you will see.

New glass looks great!
No accidental rocks.... Didn‘t even have to streeeech the truth. Just persistence? Maybe they got sick of listening to me? I‘ve been a customer, home and auto, for years with no claims. Must have figured into it? |
