Fuel filter change issues
After replacing my injectors and before starting the car, I thought it would be an opportune time to change the fuel filter. After removing the fuel line on the input side it leaked over two cups at a dribble rate. It slowed a bit but never got to the drip-drip stage. I got concerned about the fumes, etc. and put the line back on pending thoughts from the forum. Its not worth going up in flames!
Note: The fuel rails are empty, the gas cap has been burped, and the car hasn't ran or had the battery hooked up for a month. The fuel tank is about half. How long does it take to quit dripping, or does it? Thanks for any helpful comments/suggestions. If this is too basic of a question for you please disregard. |

If everything you said & you leave the gas cap off...a large mason jar.

Re: Fuel filter change issues
Last time I changed one in my previous car I did the following. I placed a clean oil change pan under the fuel filter. Next I had several vacuum plugs handy that you can buy at any auto parts store. I used one to block off the line until ready to install the new filter. But you are going to loose a bit of gas no matter what. The worst part was fuel running down my forearm.

Re: Fuel filter change issues
At least it was just your forearm. I was under a lift & gas ran all the way down my arm to my armpit. Doesn't have to be flaming to burn like hell! I won't do that again......EVER!

Fuel dripped for a few seconds and it then it stopped all together. You will loose a small drip or two at the real lines also. Most of the fuel in the line from the tank to the filter will come out.
