Default Fidanza clutch bolts.

Just wondering what everyone is using for clutch bolts when upgrading to the fidanza flywheel. I remember seeing some bolts with more thread engagement somewhere. Is it necessary?

Absolutely the smart move, for several reasons. The stock flywheel is iron & the Fidanza is aluminum. Aluminum has a higher thermal coefficient of expansion which means the bolt to thread clearance will increase with temp, more than iron will, and aluminum has a lower yield strength meaning it will deform more easily under torque and axial load imposed by tightening. All of this means the stock bolts with appx 1/2" less engagement than the aftermarket bolts are more likely to come loose.

Here's the link on where to get them. Just any old bolt that's longer is not good enough. There is a counterbore in the flywheel, sized to allow the shank of the bolt to sink below the face of the flywheel, reducing radial clearance and thereby preventing the bolts from moving. Use these bolts! They have been properly engineered for the job. I've used them.

I agree they are the way to go. The stock bolts thread engagement is minimal. I think 100 for 6 bolts is a little bit steep. Are they custom made or has he found an ARP bolt that fits this application? Im running a different pressure plate since Im using a T56. I wouldnt want to shell out 100 and find they dont work. Maybe I can give him a call. I found that three packages of torque converter bolts from ARP is what works for the flywheel to crank. If anyone would like the part number I can dig it up. Thanks for the help!

Ron had the bolts custom made for him from ARP. Pkg also includes drill bit and tap. Bit & tap don't add much value, but I'm sure having the bolts custom made wasn't cheap. I didn't want to drop $100 either, but it was the wise choice in my opinion considering the possibilities. I'm old school and saw several clutch & flywheel explosions in the "old days."

Give Ron a call. He's more than glad to talk with you and share his knowledge.

I found the TQ Converter bolts too @ ARP and used them. I think they come in pkg of 3 or 6, cant remember for sure, but don't forget that you need 8 for the LT5.

I tend to get a little carried away sometimes, but a lot of folks use thread lock compound, but forget to clean & prime the bolt & tapped threads properly. Should use cleaner/primer made for thread lock compounds, otherwise the job is compromised.

Opps! Sorry for the rant. Saw you are tool & die guy. I used to own a machine shop many yrs ago. You're an expert on this stuff.

I just checked the catalogue. There are two applications with a 7/16 -20 bolt. I will have to see which ones I used. I will post it as soon as I can get out to the shop.

and what flywheel?
do you use longer or shorter bolts for this setup?
