Default Remove Door Ajar Indicator Switch(DAIS)?

Has anybody removed and replaced their DAIS without taking the door apart?
My interior lights flickered. I cured this by thickening the DAIS
stops but this seemed Mickey Mouse, so I purchased (2) new DAIS's.
The service manual says that you can remove the DAIS without taking
the door apart.

It says you remove the lower screw and replace it with
a much longer screw. You then remove the upper screw. This
will prevent the backing plate from falling down into no man's
land inside the door. I did this and partially pulled out the switch
but I couldn't get the connector to fit/squeeze out of the hole for
the switch in the door.

Has anybody accomplished this? How did you do it? TIA

Even a new switch after awhile will end up the same due to self adjusting (retracting) design. Try pulling the plunger out a bit (trial & error deal), cut 1/8" vacuum hose (mine is about 1/8" long, I think), slit the side and fit over the plunger stem. This will lengthen the plunger and keep it that way.

Good advice from Yun. I have changed one the way you describe. If you want me to attempt again and video let me know.

Long screw keeps backing flange from falling in door.

Ah, Ted!

Just like changing out the starter on a hot, Las Vegas
summer day? :-) Great times!

I just wanted to know if someone was able to remove the switch
without taking the door apart. Evidently you succeeded.

As far as video, I don't know if it's worth it. So I suppose if you have the time...
For now, my "patch" is working fine.
Thanks again,

(The other) Ted
