Oil Pressure
Over the last couple years and 6000 miles or so my oil pressure gauge has more and more often began to bounce.I'd say 10 psi or so when driving. It will do it under throttle or coasting. It does it half the time anymore.I've changed the oil pressure sensor and it still does it.Is this a sign of catastrophic failure just around the corner? The engine has 172000 but not particularly hard miles.

I doubt that a bouncing oil pressure has much to do with the Oil Pump or Oil Filter Adapter. I would say that be indicative of electronics associated with Oil Pressure Sensing. Just curious.....what has been done to the engine? Have you ever installed new Timing Chain Guides? What engine oil you using and how often you change oil? (just asking having not much to do with your question) I may have some more questions as 172,000 miles is an interesting milestone regarding the LT5.......... proving longevity. I recall only 3 others have over 150,000 miles and a couple over 200,000 miles.

Re: Oil Pressure
Cliff, that's reassuring to hear it's not the oil pump getting ready to quit.Yes I replaced the oil pressure sensor for gauge. The old one pegged high when cold and dropped down to around half when hot. The new one shows 3/4 when cold and 1/4 when hot.Haibeck did top end porting and under plenum service around 130000 or so.I run mobil 1 gold cap 10W30 and change it and filter when service light comes on usually about 3300 miles.

Oil Pressure
I guess I would remove oil pressure sensor and check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to make sure ......then if OK must be in Cluster oil pressure readout.

Re: Oil Pressure
I'm going to go to Auto Zone and get the Pro Form oil pressure tester. Then I'll know for sure wheather the oil pressure is steady or bouncing. I do have a question though, would you use teflon tape on the threads when changing back and forth from sensor and tester?
