Really? Is that according to the tach? A top-end ported Z w/ stock cams and headers hits peak power around 6800-7100 rpm. Revving to 7400 would typically put you on the lee-side of the power curve, and for sure on torque curve too. It would likely put you way beyond the prime shift point for a "granny" (let-up) method. Your cut-off would have to have been raised too, cuz stock cut-off is ≈ 7100 rpm.
I'm not doubting you, but from what mods I've read you have, 7400 shift is...pretty high. If you're reading the tach, then I'm wondering about the tach calibration? Course, if you've set a shift light according to a scanner, you're "golden". |

Keep in mind they did not beat hard on the Z in mag testing, they even say so in some of the articles. Again with 138K miles on the cats and a corsa exhaust my car ran 12.88 112.68. Its the launch rpm that gets you deeper into the 12s.....Johnny 5 your car should be 12.4 or so at 117+...the issue us the more power the lower RPM you have to launch on street tires which is why you see a 27+ MPH pick up on the back end of the quarter.

Ideally you want to launch at the torque peak rpm, but since no tires can hold that, as many rpm as traction allows. Ideally trapping a few hundred rpm above the power peak.
