Re: Daily driving a ZR-1
Birds of a feather.......That is too funny. I'm the same way when I take my Beast to Wal Mart or anywhere with a big parking lot. And it NEVER fails, I can park a mile away with no one in any parking spots close. When I come out, 3 or 4 cars parked by me lol......And those nice wet roads look like some tail sliding good times! All while being safe of course |

Re: Daily driving a ZR-1
Back home from Bowling Green, 630 miles covered at a 75-80 mph cruise in 90+ heat the whole way, never skipped a beat. Great trip and I think I booked some more work. My kind of road trip.

Re: Daily driving a ZR-1
The daily driver is for sale! Life changes in a good way, and I'm hoping to find it a good home who will enjoy it as much as I have. Let me know if you're interested.

Re: Daily driving a ZR-1
Might need to change my name to 1cam, since that's all the Cummins has. Same hp as the Z but a LOT more torque. Don't think I'll be winning any drag races though.

Re: Daily driving a ZR-1
Yes the Z is still for sale, but I'll admit to a few second thoughts. We bought a new Subaru Crosstrek last week, 5sp AWD, will make a great car to tow behind the motorhome. I've been driving the Subaru the last few days and it's a really nice car that I like a lot, but it definitely wanders a bit on the highway, has a lot of body roll, and is generally more tiring to drive for extended periods. I'm so used to the rock-solid stability of the Z, the very mechanical gearchange and the firm clutch, that the Subie definitely suffers by comparison - light clutch, rubbery shifter, and wallowy/wandering manner. I can drive the Z all day long and feel completely fresh when I get there, but the Crosstrek is more tiring.
I have not taken it off road yet, but I will and I expect it will destroy the Z in that arena! It will also be much happier behind a motorhome.

Re: Daily driving a ZR-1
I am going to miss the updates to what I consider the best post on ZR-1.net. This post was the reason I want to get into ownership of a ZR-1. I am not interested in whether the cars appreciate in value, what the public thinks of the car or how history will treat this rare feat of engineering by General Motors.
We like to think that cars have human like qualities, that is why we like to find faults with them. And Mark, you found faults, you had good days and bad and when your ZR-1 needed maintenance and it got it, the car responded by being stronger. Also, General Motors did not develop and test and develop and test so that these cars could sit in a garage or barn. They did so because they wanted them to be reliable drivers. Not every minute we spend behind the wheel is on a canyon road or road course but it is more real than being behind a screen. There is something tangible, real, and worth doing. In todays world that wants to automate driving, I know what I am going to do. I am going to be behind the wheel of a General Motors product that doesn't have a 13" screen, is recording my every move to the insurance companies, and chirps every time I go over the speed limit. I am going to drive. Thanks Mark. |
