Default Re: WAZOO Drag Racing - 18 June 2016

Sounds like a great opportunity for you closer guys to get out there and make a few passes.
No pressure, lots of guys there that know your cars. It's a lot of fun, but a lot of people are intimidated by the track process, or they feel that its bad for the car. IMO the prepared surface of a drag strip is preferred to a possibly uneven, dirty surface of a street.
If you are on normal street tires, for your 1st pass, stay out of the water, skip the burnout, drive around the water.
Don't worry about reaction times, don't worry about the car in the other lane, just let the lights count down, give her some revs and let out the clutch. The timers do NOT start until your front tire moves out of the way and allows the beam to pass across the lane. You can sit there for 5 minutes after the light turns green and still run an ET of 12 seconds flat. Though I don't suggest you do that, the guys lined up behind you may not appreciate that.

If you've ever had the smallest desire to maybe try making a pass down the quarter mile, I cant think of a better time to pop your cherry.

I remember my 1st 1/4 mile pass, and of course like the newbie that I was, I rolled through the staging beams and attempted to stage with my rear tires, instead of the front tires. I wondered why the Christmas tree seemed so close to me. The announcer gave me a deserved razzing and I proceeded to stage properly. Once the light turned green, it was official, I was hooked on drag racing.
In the wise words of Vin Diesels character Dominic Torreto of "The Fast and the Furious", ever since my very first drag strip launch, now "I live my life a quarter mile at a time".

Enjoy the morning gents/ladies. I wish I was closer.
