While we're on the subject....Anyone know the story on this car? 1G1YZ23J5L5800933
Ebay listing claimed 6900 miles. Hit a curb hard enough to ruin the radiator and everything attached to it. Cracked two rims...I figured if I was going to bid on it I would assume the chassis was beyond repair. Some things looked like it might be low mileage, but others didn't. When I ran a carfax it came back with an incorrect mileage title at one point in its life. First time around it sold for 10,800 which would have been fair if it was actually a low mileage car. Then it got relisted and sold for like 12,500. Too much in my opinion. I talked to the seller and he was either a liar or had no idea what the story was. Told me it was a one owner car....Um, it was a 5 owner car. I got the feeling the seller had a buddy bidding it up and the buddy ended up being the high bidder. Which explains why there is no feedback for either auction. Last edited by spork2367; 10-01-2015 at 09:18 AM. |

Ed spoke the truth. If a dealer is willing to let it go for $8K, can you imagine what he got it for?
That trans. needs a $2K+ rebuild, fresh seats, paint, and tires, might bring the bill to $8K, and if the engine just needs the usual injectors, some hoses, etc., another grand. By the time you're done, you're nearing a $20k investment. For which you you could buy any number of relatively low miles ZR-1's, in good shape, with numerous spares. But despite all that, this car still remains one of the best values in the Corvette hobby. Last edited by Bob Eyres; 10-01-2015 at 10:02 AM. |

Even after I told the seller on the phone that I ran a carfax and it was a 5 owner car, he still claimed it was one owner. There was also a mileage discrepancy on the title at some point. The exterior paint, even on the non damaged panels, doesn't look like 6900 mile paint. If anyone would like a copy of the carfax I will gladly email it, just shoot me a PM. BUYER BEWARE on this one for sure. *edit Actually, it's another user account selling it now with the original pictures. Original seller was allguy999. Not much detailed info from the seller when I called, so I wasn't eager to make the trip to see his wrecked salvaged mystery car.
Engine has had paint refinishing & SS bolts, so we know someone's been into it. On the top of the plenum I can see the remnants of a decal....415 ??? ![]() I'm interested in the mileage discrepancy info you discovered, just for my own education when it comes to buying & doing one's homework. Thanks! Last edited by George Maz; 10-26-2015 at 12:31 PM. |
