Really like your 95 Z in purple ! Don't know exactly where you are at this time. If you are leaving LA and heading east I suggest heading south to San
Juan Capistrano and take the SR 74 ( Ortega Highway ) all the way to Palm Springs. If you choose that route I can escort you a ways east of San Jacinto and up towards Idyllwild. New smooth black top and mountain views with possible ocean views 50 miles away. If you are still close to San Pedro my favorite lookout is 2909 Vista Del Mar in Rancho Palos Verdes. Its a cauldesac with 7 homes on it in the 2 mil plus range and a nice quiet neighborhood with three banked heavy duty switchbacks on the way up to the house. A beautiful view from 800 ft above the ocean and Catalina Island 20 miles away. Regardless of which way you go... all the best !

On Wednesday morning, we left San Pedro and the Port of Long Beach:
![]() We headed east (obviously) and made our way through morning rush hour and drove 2 and a half hours to Joshua Tree National Park. ![]() Joshua Tree National Park has several different and interesting regions. We enjoyed climbing on the rocks and hiking through the Hidden Valley. The joshua trees are fascinating: ![]() ![]() The PurpleZ got lots of attention. People would stop to talk about Corvettes in the parking lots. ![]() We left the National Park and got on I-10 East and said farewell to California: ![]() |

Jim, Thank you for taking us along on your journey. Someday I will have the chance to take one of these myself.
How many hours do you drive daily? |

In July we will be coming through Michigan on the long way to Yellowstone. Maybe we can set up a quick stop to see you. Jim |

Jim,
Thank you for all your posting of beautiful pics. However, the most important question - so, how does it feel to be driving, for all intents and purposes, a spanking new Z? |

Jim,
The Z looks great and I know you & Lyndi are having a grand time. Since I know both of you enjoy historical & significant places, let me recommend one of my all time favorite Mexican restaurants ... La Posta de Mesilla located near Las Cruces. I'm fairly certain that you will be driving very close to the location on your way to El Paso. The address is 2410 Calle De San Albino, Mesilla, NM (575) 524-3524. The building is an historic pony express way station (an old outpost) and I think Billie the Kid hung out there ... it's worth the stop. I notice on your map that Juarez is a stop ... hope you're staying in El Paso. Kaye & I used to live less than a mile from the border and did mucho shopping in Juarez ... I probably crossed the border 3-4 times each week ... but Juarez is no longer as safe as it once was. If you go across, don't drive ... take a cab or the international trolley if it's still operating. Plan a stretch stop at Van Horn (before the I-10/I-20 split) ... it's quasi interesting. If you have time when you hit Ft. Worth, stop at the Stockyards north of downtown (great tourist attraction but used to be the central stockyards to drive cattle to market/slaughterhouse ... my grandfather rode on some of the last trail drives to Ft. Worth before Texas got so fenced in. If I think of any more neat stops I'll post again ... I know you have limited time to stop & see things but you're going through some really historically significant areas of the west. George |

At one time I did this crossing frequently, as well as other crossings into Mexico. Double careful on Juarez and if you do it, plan on several hours at the border crossing back into El Paso. P.S. don't tunnel into Mexico, it's only supposed to work while headed North.
And so it goes... Jim |
