Maybe I'm missing something obvious but what is "wrong" with the flywheel?

There's many misconceptions regarding ZF's - '94 are "black tagged" and still have the "lift-ring" for reverse. A true "blue-tag" which is a crash thru is only found on '95+ ZF's. The stock number of the ZF on the tag ID's the transmission and that's what should always be used as the identifier "plus" confirming the diameter of the guide tube. There's no other way to do it reliably.

Unless someone has been inside the transmission the tag # is the identifier of the torque rating of the transmission.

Trying to figure out the issue right now as it appears the dowel pin hole in the flywheel is much too small. I took photos and sent them out to Tom who will get back to me tomorrow in the morning.

Kevin I forgot what I paid for everything unjust wanted to double check my paypal and then set the price lower than what I paid to be sure. I don't want to lose too much but wanted to give someone a deal if they were looking at this setup in the near future.

Yes there's definitely confusion when it comes to the 94s. After talking to bill Boudreau and a few others the conclusion I drew at least was the black tag was to shown country of assembly. Blacks were built in Germany. When gm brought assembly to stateside they switched to blue tags. The move was done in 94 so early 94s still had made in Germany tans while later cars had blue tags. 94s had the lower torque rating and angle cut gears or whatever other changes were made to make the trans quieter. My trans does have the 94-6 input shaft so it is the later style. I bought a early input shaft t.o bearing because I thought at the time all black tags were the early stronger trans as many still believe.

I've never seen the spec on the LT5 locating pin but even the LT1 and L98 calls for a 7/16 dowel and the visual in the blister-pack certainly does look small. It might be interesting if you posted the diameter of the hole in your SPEC product. I would have guessed 7/16 to be correct. Jerry has them on the shelf, perhaps he can confirm. It's way different from a conventional dowel and much longer than the LT1/L98 spec of 7/8 long. Jerry uses the metric side of the rule as do I customarily and it appears to be maybe 27/28mm long. I wouldn't think you'll have any issues with the refund for the flywheel. It's obviously wrong and it's difficult to determine what is actually really wrong. Could it be for an LSA engine that is also an 8 bolt flange? Very difficult to determine except by SPEC, the etched number on the flywheel should be identifiable by Tom I'd think. The number on the package hints that it's correct but obviously not.

I did an LSX engine for a fellow and that uses a 9 bolt flange that at the time there was no one producing and our final specially constructed at the time looked very similar to that one except of course had 9 mounting holes.

It's unfortunate you're having issues but it's the right time of the year to be doing this. Now if it were a "for hire" being done in a shop the S!!!t would be on. That would be a hard one to swallow.
