May 17 Tucson Dragway Reunion
Event Host - Standard 1320
Event Location - Southwestern International Raceway, 12000 S. Houghton Rd., Tucson
Contact Name - Walter or Dan 520-869-7772
Event Hours - gates open at 4 p.m., action starts at 6 p.m.
Entry Fee - $10 general admission
The event will feature drag racing for pre-’73 cars (with the lanes open all event long and old school flag starts at various times), a large car display area featuring pre-'73 customs, hot rods, street rods, and race cars, nitro cackles, push starts and burnouts all night long, the 2014 Arizona Drag Racing Hall of Fame inductions, vendor areas, a great collection of nostalgia dragsters, funny cars, gassers and other race cars on display in a special mall area, and the event-ending Nitro Blast with many historic race cars lighting up the night and burning a lot of nitro together in front of the stands.
The wild and wooly Western Fuel Altereds will be back with a full field of cars. All of the altereds will run at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m with the two fastest cars returning at 9:30 p.m. for the money round.
Best of all, the 2014 event will continue its tradition of being a laid back, low key affair where racers and old friends can spend a lot of time telling each other how fast they used to be while looking at some historic cars in the pits and on the track!
The Reunion will again be held at Southwestern International Raceway. The track's shops and concessions will be open during the event on Saturday night and during the free Friday Night Meet & Greet.
The free Friday Night Meet and Greet will also be at the track from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will give spectators the chance to meet drivers and car owners and to see and hear some nitro cars. It will be a preview of Saturday night’s non-stop action.
On Saturday the gates will open for spectators at 4 p.m. and the action will start at 6 p.m. The track will go hot at noon for test and tune. The pit gates will be open all day for racers. General admission is still only $10 - with kids 11 and under free. The starting line grandstand will be reserved and is only $5 more. All other grandstands are free.
Pre-'73 race cars, street rods, hot rods, and custom cars may park inside the pits in the special car display area at no extra charge on Saturday night. You pay only the $10 general admission. If you want to run down the race track, a tech card is only $20 more.
