Marc's chip for stock or slightly modified 90's
Can we assume the 90' ran great before the chip installation and after the chip installation for some time? I have no less than 8 chips from Marc for 90' (L98), 90' LT5s, and 91' LT5 and all function perfectly (87 Octane and 91 Octane chips - spark timing for Knock). Carters fuel line billet bracket has 91' on one end and 87' on the other end so I can tell right away (from the end showing) which chip is installed ![]() So I doubt you have a chip issue ![]() How many miles on the 90'? What can we assume about Injectors, Plugs, Plug wires, Ignition coils? Can we assume you have 50 lbs more or less fuel pressure? Can we assume your vacuum pump is NOT constant running but does cycle? And can we assume your issue is not only after 5,000 rpm at WOT? Can we assume your fuel is clean and no water? I guess we can assume your MAP vacuum line is fully connected? We shall assume your compression is within 5-10 psi on all cylinders and 210-230 psi more or less. Don't mean to jump all over this but these ZR-1s are to be driven and not miserable broken down money grubbing no fun hobbies ![]() In my case the ZR-1s are an extremely fun DUAL Hobby (driving them and modifying them) ![]() Quote:

Kevin, I'm "packin'" when I get to BG - tools/scanner/VOM, etc. With that and all the talent gathered together there, we should be able to run dem gremlins to ground - or at least corner them to be dealt with later. Are you going to be there??? (I recognize that frustration. From time to time it haunts me too. I live in a "remote" area too, which means - like you - nobody near me that could just "drop by" for a brew and some wrenching. At times I've felt overwhelmed too. But, endeavor to persevere and realize it is a hobby - your baby needs you! (Yes, this is a pep talk. However, the thing is, I'm not sure if the audience is you or me!
![]() BTW, beautiful 90! Looks very familiar!!! |

The only other "engine" mod I have is a Coplan air duct. Car has 62 or 64,000 on it. I forget. In the last two years I've had to do NEW FIC injectors, gaskets, plugs and wires that was two years ago. Last year was the AC compressor which is when the problem started. It started falling on it's face a bit under WOT, driving to carlisle I'd roll into the throttle at 70 in 5th and the car would miss and bang, same thing at WOT and it got worse the longer I drove. Had marc look at the car, tested the secondaries and it all checked out. He drove the car, told me I need a new clutch in 10,000 miles...which gives me like 10 years...of course the car wouldn't misbehave. Drove home, 1-3 gear pull and she pulled hard, blew the tires off in second and pulled hard in third. an hour later the miss was back Got her home, called a buddy he sent me a 94 ecm, swapped that and my chip car stopped missing/banging. 1-3 was a decent pull but not as hard as it should be but no banging! stuck it in 5th went WOT and around 2500 rpms check engine light came on. Got home, pulled the codes and it was a low vac code, don't remember which one. Before that, with the old ecm, I had a DIS module code. I'd have to look at my old emails to Marc to be sure what they are. I haven't really driven it since the old ecm went back in, I was worried about damaging the car. What can we assume about Injectors, Plugs, Plug wires, Ignition coils? yes, yes, yes, no Can we assume you have 50 lbs more or less fuel pressure? ummmm sure Can we assume your vacuum pump is NOT constant running but does cycle? Marc checked it and it passed but still set a low vac code at 2500 rpm in 5th And can we assume your issue is not only after 5,000 rpm at WOT? yes Can we assume your fuel is clean and no water? seems a safe bet I guess we can assume your MAP vacuum line is fully connected? Marc checked it and I have it zip tied We shall assume your compression is within 5-10 psi on all cylinders and 210-230 psi more or less. no bleeding idea mate As I said I'm talking with a few local owners and a few further afield who are willing to help and if they can't help a buddy of mine who works on his own ferraris and I are going to try and tackle this. What makes me the most angry about this is it's a stock car. I haven't had it worked over by 6 different shops. It's more or less how it left chev. I've been chasing one problem after another for the last 6 years and it's right around $1000 a year in issues, last year was $1500. the ac replacment on my parents HOUSE cost less then the replacement on the zr-1 and I still need tyres for the car. I can't afford the gsd3's I want so I'm looking at nt05s. I'm not ashamed to say that I'm a bit over my head with this car both mechanically and monetarily. My wife and I have come upon a rough patch the past couple years. She had a hard time finding a well paying job and I've failed completely. We were starting to come out of it when we found a condo we wanted which will be a nice upgrade for us but has drained our savings for the foreseeable future. If I told her I needed a stack of cash to drop on this car she'd kill me. For the last few years I've been more excited to put this car away then I was to drive it.
