The lock on a Hurst and any other ball type shifter is a jamb-nut. There is NO Hurst that uses a lock similar to a C4 stock OR AS I learned a C5 stock shifter. Now if you can show me one of those (a Hurst with a wedge lock) I'll likely be embarrassed but so goes it. I don't believe there is one!

Unless I misunderstood, I thought USA was asking about the shifter not the Hurst T handle. The picture of my console shows a Hurst short throw shifter w a C4/C5 knob, both of which use the key lock.

No I believe I did - I thought the conversation with still "shift knobs". I do like the stock shifter though with just the Hurst ball. The balls available now I don't think are all the Hurst (branded on each side) as most are accustomed to and I believe the diameter has been reduced. The ball shifter mounted as I mentioned does effectively shorten the shift lever considerably!

I might like to try a Hurst shifter ball on my stock shifter. You guys pretty much answered my questions about doing that.
Thanks for the info.

Do the later model Z have the reverse lockout ring below the knob as do the 90 model?

Through '94 - depending upon the model number of the ZF it may or may NOT have the provision for the lift ring. A ZF build that ends in 087 or 089 is a "crash-thru" and does not have the lift-ring provision.

Or throw caution to the wind and have a new CF knob made to include a CF shift patern insert and wedge pin that locks like the original. Took em a few trys to get this right. GC
