Default Re: C5 Z06 Brake Conversion with Stock Sawblades

Hey Cliff,

Thanks for this info as I am finally getting around for shopping for brake upgrades. How about with the stock 90 MY wheels (what do we call these....salad shooters?) If not, I will get out there tomorrow and do some measurements. I like your setup and recommendation here. I am set on keeping the Dymag IIs what are supposed to have more room, but the 90 MY wheels might be the limiting factor that I need to give up on and get rid of. As mentioned before these are my wheels for shipping the car to all the places I keep moving to across the world, but if I have ship it without 90 MY wheels, it will be the CCW Classic 18s before the Dymag Gen IIs.

How about the rears? Any recommendations to upgrade that will fit 17" wheels?

Thanks again for all the time and work you put into all the posts. When I really think about what you have contributed in a few years it is simply mind boggling. You are the MAN!

I did NOT upgrade the rear brakes on either the 90' or 91'.

If you upgrade the rears, let me know what you come up with

The dimensional measurements are noted for those that want to try all sorts of other combinations for front brakes including alternate A-Molds they might find.

Okay, sorry I assumed you had some OEM 90 wheels around since you have a 90, but you would have posted that if you did.

I don't know squat about brakes and trying to learn so just thought systems should be upgraded together despite the front being the majority of the braking power. I see that SSBC has an upgrade for the rear with Ebrake, but $1800 and not sure how well it works (also won't fit in 17" wheels). I see a ton of information on CF with the guys that track their cars for rear upgrades, but really need to consider my needs in reality. I know in an emergency even on the street we want the best brakes and bigger is not always better if not set up correctly. I'll try to concentrate on just maintaining the system for optimum performance for now. Thanks again as your information is always thorough and invaluable!

I have identical A-Molds on both so the conversion was easy. I got the Sawblades for 91' from Daryll and was thinking they are the same as OEM on 90' but maybe not.

The Wilwood conversion with C5 Z06 Calipers are very nice and fit perfectly on both the 90' and 91'

I read somewhere that the 90 wheels have some limiting factors, but not sure what they are and will confirm with your measurements provided. Thanks again!!

Great info there Cliff...

You like the rotors? I thought there was some kind of rap against [some brands of] drilled AND slotted rotors?

These are the real deal and I have identical on the 90' and 91'.

The 91' Wilwood rotors with hats are three or four years older but identical. I bought those from someone on this Forum in used condition and had them re-surfaced. Identical C5 Z06 Calipers also. It turns out the 90' and 91' are identical in terms of offset requirements and A-molds which are also identical on both the 90' and 91'.
