Default Alarm question.

Okay this happened before I did a bunch of work to my 91 Z and its still doing it. If I lock each door by hand or with the key the alarm dosent go off when I unlock it next time. Now if I use the lock switch to lock the doors next time I open it the alarm sounds until I put the key in the ignition. No I thought this had to do with my door switches cause my lights would stay on at time so I did the spacer mod and fix that buy the alarm issue is still there.

the OEM is only 'armed' when the door is open and you use the power door lock

when you use the key and the alarm is set off when opening the door.. does this happen with both doors?

there is a wire to the door cylinder that is suppose to ground an alarm input to disarm it. That is where I would start looking

If armed with power door lock and using key to open, turn the key to lock position before turning to unlock position. This will disarm the alarm.

I noticed something today. The lights were on again that I thought I fixed for anout ten min. . I opened and closed all the doors Giving a firm slam But it didn't turn off. So I went back in the car started it and then turned it off. And when I close the door that time The lights turned off. I wonder if my problem is a worn ignition switch or tumbler??

Dave,

I believe the interior lights are on time delay.
After you shut the door give it 2-3 minutes and see if the lights turn off.

Mine (90) seem to be on a 30 second delay.

Okay I think I am honing in on it. Got in my car the lights were on again while the car was running I turned off the car with the door close the lights were still on. I rolled down the window and locked the door with my key from the drivers seat. I put the key back in the ignition and started the lights turned off. Is the switch on the drivers door key a problem or common occurrence??

I had symptoms similar to what you are describing on my 1994. The switch that tells the CCM that the door was unlocked with the key is inside the door, behind the door handle. In the manual it is called the Anti-theft Switch. If the CCM doesn't get the "key unlock" signal from that switch before the door open signal is seen, it sounds the horn. The door open signal comes from the door ajar switch. The door ajar switch located in the door edge and visible with the door open. It is a different switch than discussed above.

Here are some pictures of the door handle and switch:

It is a challenging job to take the door apart to replace that switch, but it can be done.

If you need a step-by-step, let me know. I just replaced it last week, and it solved all my alarm problems.

I got the switch (used) from CorvetteNutz.com.

On mine it was the passenger door linkage not moving all the way into the locked position. The car thought it was locked electrically, but physically, the door did not lock. open the pass door and it went off.

Tweaked the bar to the door lock switch in the door panel and lubed everything thoroughly and it has not had an issue in over 2 years.
