Default Tuning WAZOO Style, proposed group buy

Phil, Yun and I were talking about ZR-1 Tuning. Mark Horner had bought up all the goodies needed (road runner, tuner cat, chip burner).

this stuff isn't cheap but if we pool our resources and buy the stuff, it would work out to less than the price of a chip.

interested? we have a lot of cars local and I'm going to take the plunge and learn how to tune.

if you all would like to pursue this I can price out the equipment needed and see who is interested.

anyone who kicks in gets the ability to tune their car until DONE and retune anytime a mod is made

hope you all are interested

we're also looking into the Megasquirt deal as the ULTIMATE tuning tool.

I'm getting a Haltech engine management system installed on my C5 TT this fall and I'm going to invest in the learning curve on tuning.

the tune on the LSV is good, but can get better, and I want to play around with E85 and turbo the car down the road, so time is NOW to learn how to DIY

Count me in Ron!!

I'm stupid when it come to this stuff but to do a "Proper" tune, don't you need a dyno?

dyno tuning is very handy for WOT as it's safer than on the street

but certainly you can go to the drag strip and log WOT with a wide band and get a good strong pull

WOT actually is the easy part, the part throttle and "transitions" take alot of logging and street driving to log all the load scenarios on the engine

a wide band sensor with logging capability combined with a lap top capturing the data stream from the ECM/sesnors to analyze is really all you need

like any high speed driving, not getting busted is key to having fun and the dyno allows you to hold 4th gear WOT and see what the A/F ratio is doing

doing this on the street can bring you some new bracelets and friends (expensive ones)

is it possible to tune around town driving on the dyno? I'm not up on how dynos work other then WOT, witchcraft happens, and you get a hp number. is it possible to do part throttle tuning on the dyno?

Depends on the type of dyno. For driving around tune you need one the can do steady state loading

now come the hard part, become a tuning Zen master

time to start researching tuning tips and the software and data collection

I have the GM EASE software to kick into the party, but I need to get it loaded on a new laptop and the B@ST@RDS use a 3.5 floppy disk to store the install key - NICE!!!

gotta call them. I do have it installed on an old laptop but the battery is pretty shot and it's starting to get pretty gimpy.

so now we have to define and price the "package"

like to use the Moates romulator so we can "tune and load" on the fly to evalauate the change.

a good solid Wideband 02 with logging capability

and obviously tuner cat and the chip burner

I need to pick the brains of both mark h's (Haibeck and Horner)

both have bought all the goodies and can likely recommend the best sources.

we might even be able to talk marc into doing a tuning DVD like he did for the plenum pull

another concept is "mail order tune" as well all learn more, we can do the data stream collection, ship the info to Marc and have him do the base tune (which allows us to benefit of MANY years of tuning) and then just do the small "tweaks" to fine tune and zero in based on driving style and further refinement

I really value marc's expertise and don't want to "take business away" but the reality is that it's hard to get these cars to chicago economically

marc really helped me understand some of the challenges involved, and it's time consuming but very interesting and fun!!

lets keep the thread alive and see where this goes. it's exciting stuff
