High zinc (or phosphate), from what I understand, can lead to catalytic converter failure. Automakers push to lower zddp in modern motor oil, from what I understand, was driven by this issue and its implication in emission warranty. So the downside may not be so much for other engines but shortened catalytic converter life may be the outcome.
