Default Could broken DMF springs transmit to KS ~ timing retard?

Could the KS pick up noise from broken or worn DMF springs, and cause timing to retard?

If so, would this 'false' timing parameter integrate into fuel trim memory? And would it show up in a data scan?

Should be moot, with the auto swap, and Mr. H's module headed for the ECM here...

Doubt it but put a scanner on it and watch.

Could? maybe. Will? Doubtful. Does? Scan and datalog However, I sincerely doubt it. Contact the ZF Doc maybe he will know.

I don't think so. during heavy load/ accel, the DMF is pinned to one side and isn't knocking back and forth. Mine is a touch loose in one direction and only knocks when you turn the engine off or if there is a misfire.

full throttle scan on my tech 1 never shows knock retard timing events unless the car is hot and actually pinging. YMMV, but I doubt it.

I never seen knock retard from flywheel.

Heck i had solid disc with solid flywheel it sounded like a diesel and no retard.

Just scan it to make sure.

Maybe somebody overtightened the knock sensor.

Knock counts wouldnt affect fuel trimming, but if knock counts where above certain level, timing advance would be decreased.

You can have knock counts and not have timing retard, it all depends on the amount of knock.

A scantool will tell you.

I once had a "false knock" issue on a different platform. I tried 104 octane unleaded race fuel, still had excessive knock counts. Fortunatley my particluar PCM would accept a 1996 LT4 knock module(which desensitizes the knock sensor system slightly due to the increased "noise" the roller tip and roller trunnion rocker arms the 1996 LT4 engine uses).

This swap still allowed for actual engine knock to be detected. Via ECM tuning one could increase the number of knock counts that would be required before the ECM started to pull timing advance.

I started having my issue after I installed long tube headers.

I have "heard" that if you warp the knock sensor with Teflon tape before installation you can "desensitize" the sensor somewhat. I dont know for sure if this woudl work or not though.

peace
