Default Speedometer issue - speed sensor code

Anybody have any experience with a speedometer problem and a code for the vehicle speed sensor?

Do you have a code that has been set? Your question is pretty vague!

Code 24 and NO speedometer? Have you done any under car maintenance recently? I'd check first the obvious. I'd check the connector at the VSS (L/R of transmission) and clean it also while there. No other codes just 24? Have you done a recent PROM or done anything at all that involved maybe ECM connectors?

Yes. We just replaced the ECM.

Check all three ECM connections, check that the PROM is seated correctly. Do you have the old ECM?

Yes, but the old ECM is defective. We will check the ECM and PROM connections though - thanks.

Did the car run and the speedometer work with the "defective" ECM? If yes then put it back for diagnostics should you find nothing else!

Car would run but badly - would not want to drive it that way. No indication of a prior speedometer problem, though.
