Default 1/4 mi results from today...

Took my car to the Texas Motorplex today to show her off a little and see what time she would do down the track. I've never taken her down the 1/4 so I was extremely nervous. I only made 1 pass because this was a bracket racing event and I did not want to abuse my Z more than I had to. Anyway here are the #'s:

R/T - .035
60' - 1.95
330 - 5.33
1/8 - 8.11
Mph - 89.74
1/4 - 12.46
Mph - 116.85

My mods are:
Jeal headers with X pipe
4.30 gears
Corey Henderson tune

Is this a decent time for my mods? I plan on lightweight wheels and flywheel this winter.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

Very nice!

One of the discussions surrounding the ZR-1s and drag racing centered around what the ideal rear gearing might be. Thinking out loud...The trick is to reach the max of the power curve at the moment of crossing the finish line (per Bob G). For that, Bob suggested 4.30s or even 4.56s in order to launch a Z properly. With the stock 3.45, the Z is long legged, and 60' tends to be higher, and depend on brute power to run down their "prey" on the big end. So, results of your mods with your 4.30s seems to support what Bob was suggesting - for drag racing, if not normal driving.

Again...Nice run!

Thats funny, you 60ft exactly the same as my 4000 lb Vortec 350 reg cab shortbox GMC 1/2 ton, headers, tune, 4.10 gears. But you trap 2.2 seconds quicker and 22mph faster lol.

Running 12's has gotta be fun at the strip, and really fun to drive on teh street.

peace

Yes when I slammed into 4th gear and saw that I was still half track, i was excited because I knew there was more power waiting for me. I want to say I crossed the finish line in the high 6500 rpm mark. The 4.30's were definitley suited for the 1/4mi track!

Like everyone here and on the other board are saying, if I can whittle down my 60 foots, I should be in the low 12's hopefully.

That sounds about right. Here is what Marc Haibeck said about 4:10s:
"The car completes the quarter mile in fourth gear at about peak power, 6300 rpm". So you must have been revving a bit higher with the 4:30s to complete the 1/4 miles in fourth gear. --Bob
