"Exhaust for max performance" and Flowmaster do not belong in the same sentence.

I have a set of Flowmasters on one of my cars, so I'm not really a hater, but they just don't belong on a Vette, especially an LT5 car.

Ditto that.
For a bit more get Stainless Dynomax #17228

The guy claims the sound is more agressive than 17228 because it does not split into two and just goes straight through. It make sense, but I also see that flow is 100 SCFM more that might not matter for a 350. According to Dynomax specs 17228 is rated to 864 HP in a single exhaust system and 17220 to 818 HP and the numbers double for a true dual exhaust system. Just curious and something I'm pondering since 3" single to dual offers some nice tips. Thoughts?
I had the 17220 on my 89. I will tell you that the resonance was lower then with the B&B mufflers but still there.. the 17228 with x-pipe and flappers on Dom's car is nice.. low resonance, some but very tolerable to me, and I am VERY picky/ear sensitive for the resonance

That's great to hear. Not often does all out performance and tolerable cruise come together.

What do you guys think about these? Seems like an alternative to the npp tips that are shooting up in price by the day.

Not sure why they say this on the listing:

Notes:For single exhaust applications (over 4.0L). Not recommended for dual exhaust applications.

The SCFM flow 1/2 the Ultra flos as well as single in and out with the offset, but otherwise pretty cool concept. You are right about the NPPs and I have given up already.

Nothing magic about NPP gates (aka flappers). Gates abound in various sizes, I recon. So, no need to "bend over" for someone selling NPPs, unless you just hafta have the Z06 trumpets.

Summit has several electric gates; pairs running between $250 ish to $350 ish in sizes from 2-1/4, 2-1/2, 3, and up. My point being, the Dynamax muffs are about $170, and add maybe $350 and we're looking at $520 ish for parts. Just something to keep in mind if the NPPs route get stupid pricy.

However, I like price and simplicity of the vacuum actuator approach. Getting the mechanical gates to adapt the cheap little actuators to would be the next quest. (I have yet to see them at Summit. Any suggestions??)

Also, my comment about IN-LINE gates that have a reduced size opening through the flap seemed to get short shrift 'round here, I guess. The advantage might be even greater noise reduction, based on my experience with the concept on a motorcycle, AND they would be easy for a DIY'er to install somewhere ahead of the muffler; no need to cut and weld muff tips, to fit the flapper, etc was my thought. Welding needed would be minimized (with say 3" gates inserted into the 3" pipe on the inlet side of the muff.)

Paul,

It appears that the Z06 trumpets play a role in the exhaust note. I imagine you could find damaged Z mufflers and salvage the tips, it would be the most expeditious (and IMO least expensive) way of doing this. I went this route to allow use of less restrictive muffs while avoiding the typical drone. So the primary purpose of my system is power enhancement. The flappers are secondary. I gotta think GM went the tip/flapper route so the exhaust always had an unhindered route out to atmosphere. I put a summary of the costs for the full system (- headers) and it seems to be pretty inexpensive in comparison to what B+B is asking. I'm sure with the creativity available on this forum, less expensive solutions will evolve.

With exception of the NPP Perforated tips ( on inner walls) the Z06 tips look like those on Corsa.. you can find double walled tips if you look. so I don't think it is specifically the Z06 tips

As for the DIY approach, I have a pair of vacuum actuators I got for $10 new (for the pair) I found a 2.5" blade I need to buy to see if a DIY system can be made, close to what was posted on page 8 or 9 of this thread
