I could not imagine that too, but heck there were 4 cylinders making almost 800 HP or more and some of those V-6s making over 1,000 at recent Tokyo Auto Salon that I went to on Saturday. Here is one Vette on the dyno making 1,300 HP at the wheels.

I wish I could, but I already spent it a long time ago! As a matter of fact, I'm still spending it! But we could, all of us, be spending it on really stupid stuff and we don't...we spend it on our hobbies, so that's all good by me.

Your car was not a waste! Dude that thing must rock when you put your foot in it! Now it has real "go" to match the "show"! That's having your cake, and eating it too!

Now mine, being stock, has too much slowness, but when you go from a 93 Tempo POS to a 90 ZR-1 you think you're riding a Saturn IV! It's all a question of perspective!

Looks pretty scary to me with the street tires breaking loose at 90 MPH -- got to have a lot of balls to stay in it under those conditions.

For some I guess there is always faster -- might as well get one of these is that is the case.

Rocket cars are capable of very high speeds, and at one time held the land speed record (now held by a jet car). Rocket cars differ from jet-powered cars in that they carry both fuel and oxidizer on board, eliminating the need for an air inlet and compressor which add weight and increase drag. Rocket cars run their engines for relatively short periods of time, usually less than 20 seconds, but the acceleration levels that rocket cars can reach due to their high thrust-to-weight ratio are very high and high speeds are fairly easily achieved.

Kitty O'Neil in 1977 recorded the quickest quarter mile elapsed time of 3.22 seconds at 396 mph using hydrogen peroxide powered engines and made a quarter mile run with a top speed of 412 mph. This is in excess of the performance of more familiar piston engined dragsters.

KITTY MUST HAVE A BIG SET OF NADS

I think I saw a rocket powered car once at New England dragway in NH. The guy in the tower kept telling him to get it off the track if he couldn't get it running. Just as I was sitting down, it.....I'm not sure, ignited?. It was sitting dead quite at the start line then just exploded? and was throught the quarter mile in the blink of an eye. Nobody said anything. It just sort of happened and went away, no explanation or anything.

I saw one at the Union Grove, WI. - Great Lakes Dragway way back in the 80's.

I went down to the finish line so I could see how fast 400 MPH was when it went by.

Needless to say - one could barely turn their head fast enough as it flew by -- very impressive to say the least.

Sure at the line the show of the afterburner and the tower announcer yelling that he thinks he is in hell has the turbine jet in the spotlight - but in the end the rocket with the small blue flame is the KING of the Track. The jet may melt down a car on the sideline and warm up the pavement but the rocket melts the track in MPH.
