Hello All as you know I have been working on the Z for a while and I have finally recieved my new Injectors from FIC,..(Jerry I need to order another seal kit!)..Anyway I had a high RPM knock at startup that everyone on here is sure its a dual mass flywheel issue ect due to sureley bad injectors!!!,...Well..I am wondering if I can boroscope the psitons through the sparkplug holes to verify that there is not a head issue(valves slapping the pistons).....
AND....if it is in fact a head issue can I change the head in the car??? Also All my WAZOO buddies...I almost have everything to get this thing done...let me know if we can set up a time or day????? Last edited by oricale; 12-30-2011 at 09:36 AM. |

Retiming the cams, etc would be a PITA....a motor can be pulled in about 4 hours, why not pulled it and address it and any other items....
Just a note, not sure how bad the sound is but the LT-5 has a known piston slap issue that was determined to not impact longevity of the engine or performance..... If the pistons are hitting pistons, why not do a leakdown or compression test to see if there is an issue?

Here is the earlier thread....http://www.zr1.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15800
I may want to do another compression check,..would that eliminate possible valve issues? |

If the valves are hitting they are bent and therefore compression would be down....leakdown would be better.....

ON EDIT- Nevermind- just read your previous postings. I would pull the engine if you can positively diagnose it. Last edited by mike100; 12-30-2011 at 01:23 PM. |

If compression and leak down check good you don't need a boroscope or change the head. You need to give more info, what you've done and checked already. You check injectors,wires/plugs,coils? Check engine light on? Is it only do it at start up? I would suggest take it to a pro and stop wasting time & money, guessing. Pete
