I haven't been here in a while, thought I'd stop in and update everyone, I had to sell my '90 ZR-1 awhile back, broke a timing chain and didn't have the money to fix it. I wrecked my '86 vette last month (October 8th) and broke both my femur's in my legs, also broke my right knee and ruptured a tendon in my right index finger. The wreck was my fault, I was driving like an idiot and I knew better but I paid dearly. I looked ahead after the impact with tree and saw the front of car in flames and had to crawl out of car using just upper body strength, we all know how hard a C4 is to get out of anyways. I crawled behind car a little ways and watched it burn to ground while waiting on paramedics. As I watched it burn I shed a few tears then realized I left my phone in the car so I was then praying that someone would come along and call ems, but someone had notified them, they arrived as the fire got to the back of the car. I was then loaded up in a helicopter and flown to Atlanta Medical Center where it was determined I'm very lucky to have not sustained any head or neck injuries (I had the top off was 75* out that day). I was in icu 2 weeks due to complications after surgery, pneumonia set in and was very resistant to any meds, my blood o2 would drop to 75% in seconds without oxygen. I was given 2 units of blood and slowly started getting over pneumonia. Fastforward to the 17th and I was transfered to Acute Rehab Center at AMC. They worked me hard but I was walking with help of a walker within 4 days, wasn't on any pain meds anymore either. Fast forward to the 28th and I was released from there to continue therapy at home with a visiting nurse, I was discharged from that today and start outpatient therapy next week. I'm able to walk to end of driveway and back with use of cane, no longer using walker. I'm told I must have been in very good shape beforehand to be getting better at the rate I have been.
Well, thats enough of my ramblings. Thanks to whoever reads I felt it might make me feel slightly better about it to get it out there and in typing. Take care, Travis |

Glad your OK (to a degree), as I always say, it could always be worse. Sounds like it almost was.
It's a good reminder to all of us not to get too carried away. We're probably all guilty of that to one degree on another. All the best... H ![]() |

Perhaps not as bad but I have been there. But I could not stay away from a ZR-1 and got my second one in 2000 - henceforth "secondchance".
Get well soon! ![]() |

With a wedding, then children the good ole two seater will be your sanctuary. You need another Vette, not a want but a need.
There, basically we can justify almost anything. |

So sad for your loss buddy! Just glad you made it!
So happy to hear about you and Sophie getting hitched -- congrats on that. I know there will be another Vette and no doubt a ZR-1 in your future! You are young and have plenty of life to live and there will be many kool rides along the way for you. And knowing how much you both love Corvettes I am sure there will plenty of them for you both along the path of life. I am just so glad you made it and are getting married soon. Sorry I missed your IM the other day -- you were right I did fall asleep with the laptop still on and did not see the IM until I woke up the next morning. LOL I fall asleep way to often in the Lazy Boy with the puter on all night till I awake the next morning. Looking forward to a long chat with you to get caught up to speed with all. Say Hi to S for me and thank God you are OK -- Corvettes come and go and can be replaced --- On the other hand there is only one YOU!!! |

When youre young dumb and full of c#m that testosterone takes over. When I was 23 I went down on a. GSXR1100 at 120mph. I totaled it and myself. I broke my left wrist and my knee cap got ripped out of my right leg. I was in the hospital 3 months. $900 a day. Luckily Blueshield paid for it all. And when I went back to work they had already replaced me with somebody else. Almost died and lost my job. Life can be real tough at times. Was the thrill worth it? No way.
The drag strip and road courses are the place for that. Last edited by rhipsher; 12-03-2011 at 11:51 AM. |
