Default PROM questions

I wonder if anyone can give me some assistance regarding my PROM?

Recently I brought home my first ZR-1 (1991 #1135). The car is great and I am really enjoying it. The previous owner installed a Doug Rippie chip in the ECM. All that I have is the original invoice from when he purchased it that states that it is a "Level 1". I am curious about the specs of the chip. The cooling fans seem to run almost all of the time and I have read that that may not be the best thing. Plus I am curious about the other parameters such as the timing and fuel curves. The engine runs fine but the idle seems kind of high and unsteady as I come to a stop.

A couple of weeks ago I emailed Doug Rippie, Inc. but have received no response. The address I used was the one on their website to the Marketing Dept. so that may not have been the best one to use. Does anyone have a better place that I can make inquiries regarding this chip?

Thanks in advance for the help.

I recently removed a Doug Rippie chip from my 91 ZR-1 for the exact reason you detailed. The Rippie chip was based on the original GM design that makes the engine idle too high when coming to stop. It drives you crazy. GM has a technical bulletin out on this and came out with revised chips in 94. If you do a seach on this site, you'll find the information and GM part numbers. In fact, looking at my receipt, the part number for the 91 updated PROM is 16193416. List price on the PROM is $98.65 and if you know someone at any dealership or repair facility, they can get it for less.

Thanks Greg. I actually do work at a GM dealer and can get the updated PROM for a good price. I would not like having the 1-4 skip-shift feature back though.
What I am considering is going with a Haibeck chip. Theirs seem to be researched pretty thoroughly and I have read some favorable comments regarding how they perform.
One thing I really dislike about this one is how the idle constantly "searches" as I am coasting down in gear. It makes it feel like the engine is surging. Once I'm stopped the idle goes up and down for a couple of seconds then settles in. Very annoying.

Meanwhile... the learning continues.

Yep, that's exactly what my car did. It drives you nuts, extremely annoying. The new chip fixed that problem immediately......... until about 30 minutes later when my car developed the miss in my other thread.......... still trying to track that one down.
