Default Dual tops and blue tops

I am new here but assuming all goes well will complete the purchase of a 95' ZR-1 next week. It appears the vehicle I am purchasing was delivered/ordered with the single blue top, but the Vehicle I am looking at has a hard top as well. Were after market tops a common order in their day?

What is your VIN (last 4 digits)... then can look up to see what it was ordered with (there was a dual top option...trans and solid) and if you have the build sheet can find if the option is listed there. Also, (I believe this is true to MY 95) the trans top will have a serial number etched in it that matches the VIN of the car...if it is the original top.

Here is the location of the number...in my case VIN is 0556 MY 1990

If you have joined the registry, they have information on the build of each ZR-1. You can see if it was a dual-top car, which acrylic top, and how common that was. You can also look at the service info sheet in the center console to see which top options the car came with.

You can buy tops and such for fairly cheap, someone certainly could have added a clear or solid top later.

I don't own the car as of yet but when I take delivery next week I will be sure to check things out more closely on this topic. I am aware that the build sheet says it was a one top car, which doesn't really matter to me from a collection standpoint, and if someone added one that is ok since I can always leave it at home if I am doing any NCRS type show or judging. I look forward to seeing the car and really getting into the build sheet and knowing her inside and out. It is why I am will to sell a beautiful 67' Nova that is a pro tour with an LS2 set up. Nothing quite like a chevy nova pumping out 420hp when it weights almost nothing. I am a two collector car owner and only allow myself to have two.

I'm coming back here for any questions! Love having Corvettes that are matching and correct.....much easier to know the car!

Out of respect to the current owner who I'm sure knows every inch of the car I'm not going to list Vin since I know it is in this registry. But I appreciate your help!

Nice to hear from two VA folks....use to work at VATech and most recently lived down in Lexington area but spent most of my time up in NOVA.

Thanks for the photo! I really don't want to bother the current owner too much as he has a great car that is very solid and documented....I just have to wait and start to work through it getting to know every inch....and drive it!

My 91 was a glass top only car but the previous owner sold with the car a new painted top.I prefer the painted top to the glass top,the only cars that look great with the glass top are the black cars,cant tell it has a glass top until your standing next to the car.And the main reason I wont use the glass top,dont want it to get damaged so it sits in the closet protected by 2 top bags.Ive got a 64 Nova 2DR HT so I know just how much fun they can be.[IMG][/IMG]

Love the photo....my Nova is 67 gold with cream hard top....and one 65' Vette coupe with side pipes in white, and soon this white ZR1. They are hot and go well together for photos and driving fun! Thanks for insight and thoughts on the glass top!

I've only had my glass top on a few times. it's a nice compromise between no top which makes the car too loose and the painted top which makes the car stiffer but doesn't let any light in. I prefer the look of my car with the painted top on.

I've read several places where the cars are a bit loose without the top on. I'm looking forward to seeing how the car feels and performs. It will be interesting to me to try the different tops and feel the movements on the road. My 65 is a coupe and although you feel the road it is actually perfect from a driving standpoint. My Nova is very stiff with a heights undersystem on the front. But i've owned several different cars including both a miniS, and a BMW Z4m and all have different ride characteristics that I enjoyed. I'm sure I will enjoy this car in both it's top on and top off form. But I do tend to accept cars for what they are and enjoy them as designed, rather than make them fit my style which is why I prefer matching correct cars as opposed to modified custom designs......with the exception of the exhaust....I love my cars with nice manly note!
