I think it's an oil filter housing pre spin-on filter for small or big block Chev for you young whippersnappers - guess Paul had some older stuff too ... and this one looks pretty well used. Uses a PF-141 element. Are there any markings on it?

Did not see any, but there were also 7 L88 pistons, a 427 390hp balancer and flywheel

Thats exactly what that is. Used to be called the toilet roll oil filter holder. I had one on many 67 Camaros and it used the PF-141 filter.
