Found this black box on my car recently and not sure what it is. I'm going to call Vette Doctors this week as I'm sure they know. The builder, Clint Hooper thinks it is to adjust the speedometer when the rear gears were changed. It appears to be spliced into the ECM wiring as well.
Any input is appreciated! ![]() |

I guess if you could ID the exact pins on the ecm it is spliced in series with, you could probably figure out what it is doing. A speedo pulse box sounds likely if you have a different gear ratio.

I've got one of those boxes too, so I would be interested to hear what you learn about it. Car had a lot of work done by VD and it does have 4.10s.

Thanks guys, I'll start tracing things down if they don't have any info. I just find it hard to believe that something this complex is to correct the speedo. I had one in my 1993 Firehawk from around 2000 and iit was so much simpler. |

The reason I thought it might be related to the gear swap,is that 4.27's were installed. In 1998,the ratio choices were 3.92,4.09,and 4.27. The new Super 44 ring & pinions weren't available, yet.

I believe you are probably right Clint since you know these cars better than most. It will be interesting to hear from Vette Doctors next week.
