To the best of my knowledge, ABS codes have to have a TECH1 to reset them.

Found this tidbit on a Canadian StripClub bathroom wall:
code 76 is lateral accelerometer. He needs to remove it and whack it in his hand to make sure the pendulum on the inside is loose. Otherwise it needs to be replaced. You can clear the codes on the ALDL connecter. Page 5E1-3 gives you the proper sequence for grounding. The only codes you can not clear with the ALDL are 41,45,55,61,63. Don, this part I'm not sure of but if the grounding/ungrounding of pin H that I sent in email fails then do wait to see all codes first.

I had to take the sensor apart and center the pendulum by hand using a ohm meter.the sensor doesn't work but the abs light goes out.i don"t track race so that"s ok.

It's very important to note that the need for the lateral acceleration sensor is not strictly driven by "track racing".
The ABS senors information is used by the ABS controller to enhance rear brake performance when braking and cornering at the same time. This would be of critical importance during street driving in wet weather or in dry weather in a emergency evasive situation. If the lat sensor is not working but ABS is working, you have a potentially dangerous situation regardless of whether or not you "track race". Also, if the lat sensor is not work but ABS is working you may experience the ABS enabled on the rear brakes when driving in a straight line and there is no impending lock-up, ie: a "false" ABS application. Bottom line, from a safety standpoint you are better, letting the sensor be out of range so the code sets and ABS is disabled. Just ignore the ABS Service light while you're looking for a used unit. |

What year is your car, Don? I have a used (working) lateral accelerater sensor (large kind). I believe it came out of a 92 or 93, but it is not the '90 (small one), I do know that. It lives behind the radio. You can have it if it is what you need. Just pay shipping. IT DOES NOT FIT A '90.
If you are interested, I will pull it out of my spare parts box and check the pn# for you. |

I did this same thing with mine years back and it's never stuck again. I have a theory on how they stick but it's beyond the scope of this tread.

if the pendulum is sticking the computer doesn't now if your going around a corner or in a slide.it it thinks your always going straight.
