Thermostat sealing problems

Looks like I may need another seal (anybody have one?), this one wont seat up no matter what I do.

The outer housing DOES bolt to the ouside of the frame rail, no?
Sorry, its been apart a long time.

Seems so simple yet pees water out as I pour it in.

I noticed to get the seal/thermostat to stay in place I have to kind of push it into the rear opf the housing and it doesnt wanna lay flat, anyone have a little trick I missing to get this thing into place?

ron ,sorry i didn,t get back toya sooner but just now got back in town. how did you put the gasket on the therm. it the gasket is attached in that little groove in the rubber if you look at it sideways after you attach it there a little slope bigger a top and smaller towards the little end. aand of course you are putting the little end towards the engine. .make sure also that the grooves are clean. if you are still having a problemm give me a call around 8 am

Welp, after a year she started right up and idled like a kitten, no rattles, smoke, leaks, nothing. What a motor. Now to get it back on the ground and put some miles on it before shelving it again. :-({|=

Best part was the vacuum pump doesnt run anymore, suspect I hmay have had a slight leak at the TB and not known it.

Now to get it back on the ground, had to have some shock bushings and actuator clips overnighted.Hopefully Sunday I can go for a spin.
Fwiw, Randy at Doug Rippie was a pleasure to deal with.
