DYNO Pulls
 

Anybody going to do any Dyno pulls in BG? This was not offered last year and I think it is a cool idea. I have never done one, what is the procedure? do you run it through the gears? :dontknow:

Mine has been done a few times. Once you know though, I don't see the point unless you have made more mods etc and need to retune.

Rick,

Two years ago the dyno pulls were done at a local (near the NCM) tuner shop. You go there with your car and wait your turn. The dyno operator will direct you to position your car in the test area. Then it is secured with straps so that the rear wheels (for a ZR-1) are sitting on a large roller in the floor. The operator makes a few simple connections to the electrical system of the engine. Then the operator starts and operates your car from idle to full rpm to perform the test. Usually there are three runs. Then the operator gives you a print out of your data.

I recommend doing it for your car since you just got done making mods. I'll go over with you, I would love to hear your car scream.

Personally, I'm dubious when it comes to putting the car on just any ol dyno. We've all seen too many variations between machines with no changes to the car's setup. Why would that be if the operator dialed in the correct conditions before the run? Good question. Did conditions change during the day? What affect would a 30? change in temp (between morning and afternoon) make in otherwise identical runs?

Call me paranoid, but I'm thinking I'd rather restrict my runs to one machine at one shop where I'm reasonably sure the operator knows his stuff.

Agreed, plus sometimes the straps break, motors go boom etc, cars jump off dyno wheel.

If you look at the videos on you tube, you would never dyno your car LOL

My car has only been dyno'd by the same performance shop.

I'm sure the NCM will have a safe setup though and a good operator.

In the last few years in Bowling Green they have offered a couple of different types of dyno. One was a local speed shop, which, Marc Haibeck
burned a chip for Ron.
the other is a a dyno truck, that is set up at the museum, I dyno'd on that particular setup 3 years ago. Either way, its nice to know your numbers, and perhaps find a few extra ponies with a few small, tweaks.
