Default COOLING SYSTEM QUESTION

As some of you may know I just put a new radiator in my Vette. It works fine. Wile testing on the hiway at about 70 mph I found that by turning on both fans the temp would drop by 2º C. This leads me to believe that the incoming air is going over the top of the radiator not through it. Last week at “Glass on the Grass” in Tracy I saw a ’92 with a rubber seal between the air cleaner and the hood. Is this seal “stock” I’ve looked in several catalogs and don’t see any.

I have a 95 Lt1 car that has the seal on the underside of the hood I think its to help keep air pressure at the air cleaner, but it is not on my 91 LT5 and it was not on the 90 LT5 that I had..The air going thru the Rad. should come from under the front.

I don't see how any air would be directed from under the hood and down thru the rad box.

I also tried that and had a 5 degree reduction. I thought it was my wire mesh screen creating a restriction. I will check on the way home as I have the screen off today. My system is modified, but I have sealed my radiator from air leaks fairly well. I even put a trimmed plate around the condensor tubes to reduce air leakage.

I don't have the seal you referred to either, so maybe they added it.

Besides your mods, have you added a bottle of Water Wetter? The stuff really works.

Yes, I have been running water wetter and it does help. I think that the water side of the radiator was cloged. The new DeWitts radiator seems to have made all the difference. I'm still running water wetter, I'm sold
