Default How can I see the engine stamps

Hello everyone. Been lurking for a week or to as I am a new ZR-1 owner. I was the lucky winner of the purple 1989 ZR-1 at Barrett Jackson on Tuesday. Now for the record, I was not "over served" nor am I a bank CEO. I just like to "invest" in quality cars, and this one is now number one on my list of favortes. I am not a Corvette newbie nor a C4 newbie, but this is my first Z... Hell of a choice for #1 OK I joind the registry and paid my dues now I need your help. How can I get all the stampings on the engine/tranny so I can marinate in those strange facts we NCRS guys like. Having decoded countless "normal" small blocks I though I could find them, but this thing is jammed in the engine bay And I will be dammed that I can't see even 1. Can I do this without tearing it apart? (BTW I did pick up a set of the correct 89 wheels) Eric

Welcome Eric and congrats on your new car. Like you, I was anxious to find my engine stamping so I could verify that it was the original (it is). If I remember correctly, I used a flashlight and a mirror. I manuevered the mirror just above the passenger side cat and was able to view the stamping on the block. I have a lift, so it made it a little easier. Not sure about the stamping on the tranny ... forgot to look at that one.

Thanks Pat. Did you see it from underneath with the lift?

Eric:

Welcome to the Brotherhood Of The Beast!!!

Congratulations on your acquisition!

Wow, just wow.

Here's what you need to find the all the #'s:

You'll need a flashlight, a hand held mirror, and lots of patience.

Tom, thanks for the welcome. Great link thanks Just for clarification there are two stamps on the block. The assembly/lt5 info stamp on the front passenger side (this picture shows an L98) and a Car VIN stamp on wither the pass or driver side rear dear where the bell housing bolts. Eric

Eric welcome to the group. There are a couple spots for the stamping.

Please consider bringing the car out to Bowling Green this year. Your car would be most welcome and I'm thinking we should be able to get it on display for the weekend.

NICE, I spent 6 days at B-J watching, bidding, getting outbid as these ZR-1's go off
Bill B lives in Cave Creek, Trans guru, ZFDOC.com
Hope those illustrations hold true for 89
Tyler is probably the expert on 89's
Maybe "Fred", "GC", you and myself can get together here in Phx area
I am close to 101 & Shea

Very cool car. Question-Are there truely unique '89 wheels or are they simply the same as the '90.

They are 89 only wheels.. 89s have a center cap 90s don't THe car came with 91 saw blades though.

"I am close to 101 & Shea" me too!! closer to Cactus though. Probably saw you I was out bid on more than one ZR-1 too!!! Missed the Active, I was only about $70k short on that one.
