Here's What's Happening to some of the Cars That Sell Cheap
This car was sold on Ebay, July 4th, for $15,101. Here's what happened to it. Just making a point on people giving these cars away. Does anybody think these cars are really worth $15,000 bucks. Nuff Said.

Re: Here's What's Happening to some of the Cars That Sell Cheap
Well heres the issue and we are part to blame. Evrybody is damn convinced that the beast is a hard car to own because parts are not available (Some truth to that) Nobody wants to work on it (that you would trust anyway) Etc Etc. Fred here also ZR1Fred on the other forum had to convince me hey its still a C4 but even more so 2 years ago. He told me a truth most folks dont know. Frankly the car is a C4 and you will spend more time fixing normal C4 items. THe LT5 likes to be hammered daily!!!! Lets face it unless you have a least half a brain mechanically or the money to pay for the right person to work on it well its a problem.
Now is it worth more than 15k you bet but these are warp factor sucky times for the ecomomy.

Re: Here's What's Happening to some of the Cars That Sell Cheap
I'm not sure I follow? Someone bought the car and fixed it up, and is reselling it. When a car has unknown issues, that's what happens. Someone who knows how to fix it might buy it, fix it, and resell it for more. That's why it's not generally a good idea to sell a car without fixing the issues. Most people don't want the risk associated with whether it's a easy fix or not, so will only buy it at a lower price so they can't get as burned.
Also just because this guy is asking $21k on AutoTrader doesn't mean he'll get anywhere near that. AutoTrader is like the dreamer's for sale site. Prices are always way out of line with reality. Really I think the problem is people buy/compare the ZR-1 mainly in terms of power. Every year that goes by, that comparison gets less favorable. 400hp at $20k becomes easier and easier to find elsewhere. I don't think with most older cars, people do that. They just buy it because they love that old car, and it's moderately fast. I'm not sure why the C4 doesn't command that sort of attention, or at least not from a very broad base of people. I realize it's no Ferrari or Porsche in terms of generating that sort of lust, but it's not too far removed either. Even flop cars like the BMW 8-series seem to do better in terms of selling price.

The seller had moved and didn't have a place to store the car anymore and had not driven it very much lately, so she decided to sell it. My good fortune I guess. I don't understand your point. What should she have done to get more money? It was an eBay auction with no reserve. No one out bid me so I guess a lot of people do "think that these cars are worth $15,000". In her previous auctions with a reserve, no one bid the price up. Jim |

My point was, these cars are worth more than the sellers on ebay are getting for them and they are now setting the prices for the rest of the market. Just because that car sold on ebay for $15K doesn't mean they are worth that, as that car is now relisted at a price $7 grand over what it sold for. Doesn't mean it will sell for that, but it is still for sale at book now. So what's the market, ebay or close to book? How many of these cars are being flipped that we don't hear about. $15k ain't close to book. Some reason our ZR-1's can't be valued like the god damn Ferraris or Lamborghini's? I'm not talking $500k, I'm talking book. They are damn near as rare and they will keep up with them (in their perspective years) or even knock the snot out of them. So what are those guys paying for? Guess I'll be sitting on mine for awhile and hopefully people will wise up soon. these are not your mama's Corvette's, they are very special ones and there ain't that many. That's all folks.

Re: Here's What's Happening to some of the Cars That Sell Cheap
"My point was, these cars are worth more than the sellers on ebay are getting for them..."
The definition of what a car is worth is the price that a willing seller and a willing buyer agree on to make a transaction in a free market. I understand your desire to have the selling prices to be higher, but just saying it is so doesn't make it so. I'll ask again, what do you suggest that the seller do to get a higher price? Jim |
