So, my neurotic obsession with rattles, squeaks and noises (so why a C4 huh?) has got me on another quest...
My driver side door has a rattle on the inside behind the door trim panel. This occurs only when the window is all the way up. When I take the window switch and just quickly tap it (I mean really tap it) the window will lower about 1/16 of an inch and the door is quiet. Clearly the pressure from the window being all the way raised is causing this noise. I have no problem taking the door apart to find the problem, but I'd appreciate a "I had the same problem so here is what you need to look for..." suggestions. Thanks!

Bill,
There are plenty of places for a rattle in a C4 door. Need to try to rule out the rods that actuate the door lock and latch. See if the rattle changes when you pull the door latch release. Same with lock vs. unlocked. The window is bolted to the regulator, but if this was loose it should rattle whether fully up or slightly unloaded (down a bit). The regulator has a teflon pad that presses a bit on the window. Normal for it to wear over the years. If the regulator frame is worn appreciably, it can be the source of rattle noise. If it's that bad, you'll just have to disassemble and chase it down. Not an "easy" job, so be patient and take it slowly.20210803_125505.jpg20210803_145556.jpg20210803_140610.jpg Sent from my SM-G950U using ZR-1 Net Registry mobile app Last edited by jss06c6; 03-28-2022 at 09:21 AM. |

I had a rattle when the window was all the way up. It went away if I dropped the window slightly but then you had the wind noise. Marc found a crack in the regulator and welded it back up, if I recall correctly.

Thanks guys- this is great information. Of course I'm "scheming against the inevitable" with this project. I'm hoping to be able to just take the panel off and get at the mechanics.

Had the same problem on a '94 LT1 C4. I just tapped the switch like you have been doing.
