Default single pump vs dual

Like many post I've seen, one of my zr1s has a dead fuel sending unit (reads 120 ohms no mater what). Looking at the wiring and specs on the factory pumps, could I not just change to a standard LT1 unit with a modern pump? I run a aeromotive 340 in one of my built cars and the pump alone is good for 700hp. My thought is putting the same setup in the ZR1 would give me back my fuel gauge and simplify the system. I'm sure this is isn't an original thought?

I followed Haibeck's how to, and have been running it with the below Racetronix pump:

Been running perfect for the past year!
