Autocon Debuts New Era with Creation at SLC
AUTOCON READIES FOR NEW ERA WITH CREATION
When the American Le Mans Series returns to Miller Motorsports Park next week, so will Autocon Motorsports. The only difference is that the team's Lola won't be with it. Instead the California-based team will debut a Judd-powered Creation, which is awaiting pickup today at Los Angeles International Airport after arriving Monday from England. Lewis and the rest of the crew at Autocon will have just enough time to take it back to San Diego, load it up and head to a test at Miller next Monday for a shakedown and test session. The team's last race with the Lola was the Long Beach Grand Prix in mid-April. "The Lola really pointed out the fact that engineering is a very important component at this level if you want it to work correctly," Lewis said. "We don't have that engineering resource available. It was incumbent on us to find a way to get that and we think we do with Creation. They're very supportive, which played a large role in deal." Lewis and Bryan Willman are entered to drive the prototype for its maiden run in the American Le Mans Series. The car becomes the second Creation chassis to compete in the P1 class, joining Intersport Racing's car. Both are powered by Judd engines. "They're going to be providing a kit to move it from the hybrid to a full P1 spec either later this year or certainly by the start of next season," Lewis said. "The opportunity to have a car updated that quickly was a strong factor. The Lola really struggled on the road courses, even when it was with the Dyson guys." The next round of the American Le Mans Series is the Utah Grand Prix, set for 5:05 p.m. MT on Saturday, May 19 from Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City. CBS Sports will air the race at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 20. MotorsTV in Europe, SPEED Latin America and 7TV in Russia also will provide international coverage. American Le Mans Radio and IMSA's Live Timing and Scoring will be available at americanlemans.com. |
