So I've never been on a drag strip before, in any car, ever.
But ZMAX in Charlotte had an "Outlaw Drag Wars" event last night and a couple buddies and I took a few cars up there just for fun. Here's the lineup: 2015 Aston Martin V12 Vantage S (Bone Stock) - paddle shift 2011 BMW M3 - 4.0 V8 with a VF-650 Supercharger (and lots of road race mods that don't help here) DCT Trans 1990 Corvette ZR1 - 368 Lingenfelter - Haibeck tune, 3.73 rear All 3 on appropriately sized ~200tw street tires I expected the BMW to win easily, with the Aston not far behind, and the Corvette to bring up the rear by a fairly substantial margin. (even if it makes 500ish HP, it's still down on power by at least 100hp vs. the other 2, and having to clutch/shift) It was Crazy Hot and Muggy, which certainly slowed all 3, but to my surprise, It was a virtual dead heat(no pun intended) between all 3. All 3 cars ran in the high 12's (3 passes each). The BMW and the Aston both had Trap speeds between 116-117mph, and the Z was a couple MPH slower. BUT THE SURPRISE OF THE NIGHT AND MY REASON FOR POSTING THIS HERE: The Z had the best 1/4 mile time!!! I think it says something about the car that at 29 years later it can still run with and beat a couple modern, borderline supercars, at the strip. Color me impressed! Just thought you guys might like to hear that, Thanks, Curt |

Always good to hear things like this Curt. Thanks for posting. My '95 with Marc's mods ran 12.4/117 at Beech Bend a few years back in much cooler weather conditions. I have always thought these cars to be still very impressive sports cars. --Bob

Great report on the NA V8, stick shift, 29-year-old Z run! Always enjoy hearing it.

Got it Curt! Next time it will be you. I mentioned because I’ve seen a lot of people that can’t drive a stick to good times no matter the car’s capability. Your car and friend did good. [emoji1303]🤙🏼 Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry
