GM put out a marketing video today.
https://www.chevrolet.com/upcoming-v...19_15787340846 Here if u have not seen it yet. It has loads of images that u DON’t see unless u scroll thru it. One of them is attached. Needless to say it is disappointing to me that GM has decided to go w their LTx series OHV motors to introduce this completely new platform. I’m disappointed but not surprised. This reminds of what they did w the 84 C4. They carried over the Xfire motor only to go TPI after they had sold 55k 84s. This intro smells just like that to me. Meanwhile Caddy gets a modern DOHC, TT motor. Oh well! I’m sure C&D et all will declare the C8 as the “Best Corvette Yet!” which is like kissing your sister. From a performance perspective it will be the best as history has proven. Some models have the initial wow factors and others grow on you. We want our Corvettes to be the best and this will up the game for Corvette.
As a side note, Ford has announced the discontinuation of the Ford GT for 2020. They’ll need to up their game to beat the new Corvette. If it wasn’t for Balance of Power bull crap handicapping the C7R, the EcoBoost GT would be another also ran! JMHO Sent from my iPhone using ZR-1 Net Registry |

Ford always planned in doing the GT for a very limited time and for a limited run. They did it to commemorate the LeMans victories in the 60’s, which GM never accomplished.
The GT did score class wins, but amazingly, while other OEMs have gone for the overall win, GM or Ford have never done that since Ford’s win over Ferrari in the 60’s. Last edited by XfireZ51; 04-30-2019 at 08:43 AM. |

The amount of time, development cost, etc, to run a car and WIN overall at LeMans / Daytona 24 hours, is insane. And not to mention insanely expensive. I doubt any American car company will ever pull off the feat the 1960s GT40 did. Different times and different motivations at Ford than today.... Ford makes me scratch my head at times. With production stopping of the GT and of all cars but the Mustang, their performance division is sad. I already see too many damn Mustangs on the road now, and not looking forward to seeing 8 different variations of it. Seems like a bad business decision, but I'm not in the business of making cars. The C8 will be a world beater. Maybe not the 1st model year, but give it a few years of production and an all out performance model. I can't imagine taking your Halo car, totally re-engineering this radically, to have it be not better than a Cadillac. |

Rush,
GM has made a similar pronouncement about their de-emphasizing sedans and coupes as Ford has declared. Just look down any parking lot. U can’t see a sedan because they’re all hidden behind SUVs. And the Mustang outsells the Camaro by significant margins, maybe 2-3:1. Wonder if the 5.0 DOHC has something to do w that? Hmmm? With all the gnashing of teeth on CF about the C8 “possibly” having a DOHC motor, I can’t imagine GM would REALLY want to piss off the Corvettearisti by using a V6. Especially, since there’s a pretty nice looking 4.2L laying around the parts bin. I don’t doubt for a moment however that electric is definitely planned for the AWD version. This C8 intro feels a lot like the 84 C4 w a carryover motor. |

An entry level V8 mustang is 3-4k cheaper than the comparable Camaro. For most people who want one of the two, that plays a much bigger factor than the number of cams.

I’ll have to disagree w u on that. If its 3-4k CHEAPER AND has a more seemingly sophisticated engine architecture w similar power, that certainly would sway people. I don’t think people who buy these pony cars easily substitute one for the other. A bit like a Corvette driver v Porsche. Don’t see those consumers swapping brands much.

Perhaps the General is confused about which is their Halo Car, The CTS -V or the Corvette.
We know which one has the better engine at least in 2020. I have no problem with sharing the engine, but not at the expense of the Corvette. I was always OK with cars like the Grand National, or the ZL-1 Camaro, as well as the Cadillac, but it does seem odd that the Vette will be a bit more pedestrian than the Caddy, even if only for a year. Fully agree with those who are reminded of 1984 and the Cease Fire Injection Corvette. Tradition? Why stub your toe on purpose? Marty |
