Default Question about spare tire hangar...

Heading to carlisle tonight so I figured I would check the spare ...It was inflated..I notice if I want to go spare delete,I guess I have to unscrew the hangars that hold on to the tire carrier correct?

If you tighten the tire carrier without the spare it just will rattle every time you hit the slightest bump since there's no weight there..

So, in conclusion , if I want to run without the spare I have to remove the tire carrier correct?

I did this on my 73 because the spare was full size and it was flat to begin with..Didn't want the excess weight so I removed everything......Have lightened my 73 by at least 250 pounds since owning....

I would like the run the Z with no spare...So if I do I would have to remove the tire carrier I assume...

I used to put a football in place of the tire and tighten it down. works. actually the football is probably still in my 93 but im guessing it might be deflated by now lol

Lol....Have to remember that...I have a patch kit in my car that I have used one time many years ago...Usually a flat while driving is a slow leak caused by debris in the roadway, like a nail...

Months ago I got a bad blow out with the Z on the Verrazano bridge..Luckily there was s tire shop a half mile from the bridge.....It was a five inch long sharp rivot left by one of the workers who was doing maintenance on the bridge..

I probably should have been more clear sorry ! I meant in place of the 'spare' tire on the tire tray and then tightened down so the tray wouldn't bounce around or rattle over bumps etc (the forward end)

I lived on Staten Island when the toll was $.25. What is it now, $20?

I used a couple tie-wraps to cinch the tray up tight to the two brackets (toward the front). Then I turned the bolt up tight: no rattles!

But, in reality, the spare is part of the collision protection. W/o it...well...the gas tank is left "naked" w/o something in place of the tire. (Hence my interest in one of those braces I've seen advertised for spare tire delete.)
