Engine Number
Hi guys,
I'm looking for the engine number... I've found this: 10ZUDX311160001 on the oil pan, behind the catalyst, do you think that is the right code? My vette is a ZR1 1995 Thanks BR |

Re: Engine Number
Your engine number is very close to that of my '95. There are two engine numbers. The one you found on the bottom of the crankcase just above the oil pan and one on a block at the right (passenger side) rear of the engine (same side as crankcase number) stamped vertically on its side is the serial number of the car it belongs to. (see pictures below)
The one on the crankcase on my 1995 ZR-1 was 10ZUDX311180002. See first picture. It interprets as follows: 10ZUD=MERCURY MARINE TRACKING NUMBER;X3=ZRI ENGINE, PRODUCTION YEAR 1993; 1118=DATE ENG WAS BUILT = NOV 18TH; 0002= SECOND ENGINE BUILT THAT DAY OUT OF CAPACITY OF 24 ENIGNES The one on the block at the rear of the engine (almost impossible to see without the engine out) is at the lower left of the middle picture. Note the two different sized holes drilled in that stamping block (just left of the last cylinder) and compare to the last picture (which is presented horizontally for ease of viewing). It has two stampings, the first (lower one) I don't know its meaning: Looks like 102393 11. The second, fainter, stamped above the other number is 1S5800409, 1 plus the last 8 digits of my serial number. Hope that helps --Bob
