My car revs quick, but i don't know how much quicker than any other LT5... When I start off with very little throttle, maybe too little sometimes, there is a rattle for the tranny/engine area?
Can anyone describe the noise that is associated with the single mass FW? Thanks! |

The FW makes no noise. The noise is from the Trans which is a bit like rocks in a can. The Dual Mass absorbs the engine vibration.

My Fidanza will cause a tranny rattle at idle, in neutral and clutch disengaged. Otherwise, it doesn't rattle. And the amount of rattle depends usually on how hot the trans oil is.

![]() Quote:
The dual mass wheel damps gear rattle from the transmission. At idle and low rpm the engine speed fluctuation caused by four firing impulses per revolution (engine speed increases as the engine accelerates during a power stroke then decreases as the engine slows down on a compression stroke) causes the teeth of the gears on the transmission main shaft to vibrate or rattle in the teeth of the gears on the countershaft The dual mass wheel, partially damps the effect of this speed fluctuation by setting up a secondary fluctuation out of phase with the primary. The result is a reduction in gear rattle.

No noise in Neutral, maybe a little throwout bearing noise.... No noise acceleration except from a dead stop with light throttle. Not nearly so light a throttle that the car bucks or anything like that just a normal light throttle take off.

Mine only rattles in Neutral w clutch engaged. The noise level is also dependent on how hot trans oil is, as in after a long run on a hot day. Again, playing w the tune evens out the engine pulse helping to minimize the rattling. Same as what happened with the ZF-6 in my 84 Xfire.
