Default EZ-Pass with our windshield???

Has anyone experienced the EZ-Pass not working properly with our windshield?
I try to hold it through the opening at the lower end, sometimes it reads it and sometimes it doesn't. Trying different speeds through the lane, like really very slow. Was wondering if it will read in the "regular" spot with our coated windshields???
Thanks for any info........

won't work. Heard rumors of this from some of the NY guys years ago and found out myself two years ago. hold it out the window or put a towel on the dash and put it in the cut out. In pa if you have the car registered you don't need the transponder

No problem with mine, with or w/o ZR-1 windshield. I only use the painted top, (read: not mirrored), and have never placed it in the windshield "window". But, "your mileage may vary", depending on "factors", I recon.

FWIW... Paul.

painted top, zr-1 windshield, on my way to carlise three years ago, no light. ended up having my passenger hold it out the window. two years ago I put a towel on the dash with the transponder and all was well. PA's may just suck, which is entirely possible

I ran into a brother with the license plate unit strapped under the hood. He said it worked fine.

I have the mirrored top on but with the sun shade installed, don't know if that makes a difference or not.....

I think you almost have to come to a stop where the overhead "reader" is at for it to pick up your signal.......good idea with the towel.

that is another good idea, but having only one transponder for 3 vehicles now, would have to install & uninstall after each use. No need for a second transponder as no two of our vehicles use the EZ-Pass at the same time.

I have a square of velcro taped to the spot on the dash near the opening. The 3M dual-lock style of heavy duty all plastic interlocking tape is strong enough to hold a radar detector. It would easily hold the ez-pass and could be removed a few hundred times before you need to replace the velcro patch. I can also attest that it doesn't leave residue when you peel it off.
