Shift knob

Anybody have a shift knob for a ZR-1 they want to sell. Mine came with a black T-handle and I like it but you can't have a drink in the cup holder and shift without hitting the handle.

Randy,

C5 shift knobs are identical to C4. So you have a wide choice.

And new stock ones are pretty inexpensive even if you add the shift pattern insert into the cost. If you get a C5 one, make sure the pattern is the same....I can't remember if C5s have reverse on the right or left.

I think I have a white ball (Hurst or B&M, maybe?) with the shift pattern on it. It was on one of my C4s when I got it....I replaced it with a new stock one. You're welcome to it, if you want it. Maybe 15 bucks shipped?

How do they attach? Just traded an 87 4+3 for my new 90 Z. On that, I popped the overdrive button with a screwdriver, pulled out a metal pin with needle-nose pliers and threaded the knob off. Same procedure? So any C5 knob will fit my 90 ZF shifter?

Well I forgot to post my car has a Hurst shifter.

Old age is getting to me.

There's a metal T shaped block piece holding it in under the shift pattern part. Its a friction fit and takes some effort to get it out. Then it just threads on like any other knob. Most of the aftermarket shifters have the notch for that piece so you can use the stock shifter. Any other shift knob just threads on.

Removal tutorial - I don't use the "wrecking bar" but there's images that are useful. I use a small "knocker" (slide hammer) - dent puller or seal remover after drilling with an appropriate sized drill bit.

A bit misleading - the C5 and the C4 share the same 9/16 - 18 thread but that's the end of the similarity. Not everyone is familiar with the difference in the shift patterns. A knob with a shift pattern needs to be for a ZF M6.

The C5 knob itself is identical to the C4. I have both. They screw on the same and use the same "lock key". The difference is the stitching pattern.
And yes the button for the (C4) ZF has Reverse to the right and down rather than Up.

Will a C4 shift pattern insert fit in a C5 shift knob? Anyone know where I can find a C4 shift knob in Torch Red? My upholstery shop can reupholster ours but I would rather just buy one,outright.
