Default Problems

Drove the car around yesterday and put about 80 miles, the car is up to 19.8 k now.

Stopped and went into store came out and the car made a clunking noise while cranking, and didn't want to start. Cranked it again same clunking noise....the motor was spinning over. Third time it fired right up no clunking? Any suggestions?

Next problem is that I noticed some antifreeze and oil sitting behind the IH and cam covers drivers side? Guess its time for the plenum pull.

The car had fic injectors installed late last year. What gaskets do i need to order when pulling the plenum just uppers I'm guessing? Any other gaskets or parts that i should order?

Little vacuum leak as well and the pump cycles on and off every 10-15 seconds for about 2 seconds.

Yep plenum gaskets www.jerrysgaskets.com has em. Clunk could be a bad solenoid on the starter. Regurdless either way a plenum pull

Maybe break down the 'old' starter first, check the innerds, shoot some snappics and post for feedback...

I'll be in Conover for Thanksgiving 11/27-30 there Z06; be glad to stop by, unless you're done by then. PM at me here........

This may be a stupid suggestion, but thought I would chime in. As most of you all know our Z's are super sensitive to voltage fluctuations. I know when Mike and I were trouble shooting my ECM problem, we were cranking it over several times for various tests. And out of no where and it made a horrible clunk. Scared the crap out of me! Almost sounded like the engine locked! Turned out to just be a little low voltage. 15 minutes on the charger and no problems. Not sure if this is the same clunk, but thought I would chime in! Good luck!

Schrade thanks for the offer, my plans are to tackle this week once the gaskets arrive. You could still stop by and take a peak at the car if you would like. Love to talk cars!

You may be right on, I will pull the starter and check it while doing the cleaning under the plenum.

I will report back once that has been completed!
